South Africa Wine Country
Delaire Graff Estate
Traveling through the wine country was a very satisfying experience for the taste buds, and visual memory.
First stop is Wilderer Distilleries, not for liquor, but for chocolate tasting. Wilderer is South Africa's first and most awarded craft distillery, and who is now gathering a reputation for excellent chocolate making. Located in the heart of the Cape Winelands in South Africa, and about 45 minutes from Cape Town. The chocolate tasting was wonderful, and the choices extensive, and vineyard and property beautiful!
Next stop is Fairview Cellar that was established in 1693 and is nestled on the south western slopes of Paarl Mountain, just 40 minutes from Cape Town. Fairview Cellar discovered many unique vineyard sites and introduced new grape varieties to the ancient coastal soils of the Cape.
Our visit there was about 2 hours, after walking the beautiful gardens & grounds, visiting their sweet goats and beautiful koi fishpond, and the wonderful wine tasting. We had an opportunity to spend most of the pre-noon hours tasting a fine selection of unique wines they are so well known for. Their Sommelier was well educated, and eager to share and educate our group about their fine wines ~ leaving us with a pleasurable memory of our morning visit and tasting at the Fairview Cellar & Winery.
We are now on our way to Stellenbosch, to have a lovely afternoon lunch, and tour the beautiful art and gardens of the well known Delaire Graff Estate, the jewel of the Cape Winelands.
Laurence Graff (Graff Diamonds & Design) transformed Delaire Graff Estate into a beautiful and luxury destination; featuring beautiful gardens, rare art, gourmet restaurants, wine lounge and world-class winery & vineyard, on-site boutiques & spa, and unrivalled lodges.
The views from the restaurant was breathtaking; overlooking the designer gardens and perfectly manicured vineyards, with the stately grand Cape Mountains beyond. The food sumptuous and service superb. ~ A relaxing magical mirage in the middle of the Cape, unknown to the outside until you drive through the gate. I am sure that is exactly what Mr. Graff had pictured in his mind when planning this lovely and enchanting spot.
